Japan and South Korea were among the 17 countries represented at “ONE: Call to Greatness.” It was the first ONE Championship event in 2019 to be held in Singapore.
Featuring six mixed martial arts matches, four kickboxing contests and one Muay Thai bout, “ONE: Call to Greatness” took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on February 22, 2019. In the second bout of the evening, Masakazu “Ashikan Judan” Imanari, 43, of Japan faced “Pretty Boy” Kwon Won Il, 23, of South Korea.
Imanari was one of the three fighters who represented Japan at “ONE: Call to Greatness.” Kwon was the sole representative of South Korea.
Blue Corner
Training out of Extreme Combat and Top Gym BF, Kwon made his professional MMA debut in 2014. He competed in DEEP and Top Fighting Championship, among others, before joining ONE Championship.
“ONE: Call to Greatness” marked the second ONE Championship bout of Kwon. He entered the cage as an undefeated fighter.
Red Corner
A two-division DEEP Champion, Imanari is a veteran MMA fighter known for his signature submission attack called the Imanari roll. Born in Kanagawa Perfecture, Japan on February 10, 1976, he has been competing professionally since 2000.
Imanari joined ONE Championship in 2012. “ONE: Call to Greatness” marked his sixth ONE Championship bout.
Fight Result
Yuji Shimada served as the referee of the MMA bout between Imanari and Kwon in the bantamweight division. The Japanese contender marched to a highlight-reel victory early in the evening, submitting the previously undefeated South Korean fighter in just 53 seconds.
Imanari coerced Kwon to wave the white flag with his patented heel hook. It marked the Japanese fighter’s 27th professional MMA win by way of submission.
Winning at “ONE: Call to Greatness” improved Imanari’s professional MMA record to 38 wins, 18 losses and 2 draws. On the other hand, Kwon now has 6 wins and 1 loss.
“ONE” Call to Greatness” Main Event
In the main event of the evening, Stamp Fairtex, 21, of Thailand and Janet Todd, 33 of the U.S. competed for the inaugural ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Championship title. The Thai contender won via unanimous decision.
Argentina, Cambodia, China, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey and the United States were also represented at “ONE: Call to Greatness.” Check the complete results here.
