The Philippines, India and Singapore were among the 14 countries represented at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” on November 23, 2018. Taking place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines, it is the fourth and last ONE Championship event in the Philippines in 2018.
“ONE: Conquest of Champions” featured eight mixed martial arts matches, two Muay Thai bouts and two kickboxing contests. In the 10th bout of the evening, Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 29, of Manyakan, Benguet, Philippines faced Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju, 27, of India and Singapore.
Originally from Kerala, India, Raju is now based in Singapore. He competed in Singapore Fighting Championship and Universal Reality Combat Championship before joining ONE Championship.
“ONE: Conquest of Championship” marked Raju’s third bout in ONE Championship. On four days notice, he took the fight against Banario, replacing “Crazy Dog” Park Dae Sung, 25, of Seoul, South Korea, who had been pulled out of the card due to medical concerns.
Banario is the first ever ONE Featherweight World Champion, reigning from February 2, 2013 to May 21, 2013. He is currently fighting in the lightweight division of ONE Championship.
The Mankayan native was coming out of a loss to Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore. On September 8, 2018, the Singaporean fighter submitted his Filipino opponent via rear-naked choke at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon.”
Banario and Raju competed in an MMA bout in a catch weight of 79 kg. After three five-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges.
In the end, referee Olivier Coste raised the hand of Banario, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision. It marked the third consecutive loss of Raju in ONE Championship and the Banario’s eighth victory in the organization.
Raju now has 5 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Banario improved his professional MMA record to 14 wins and 7 losses.
“ONE: Conquest of Champions” Main Events
In the co-main event of the evening, Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, of Baguio City, Philippines and Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore competed for the vacant ONE Lightweight World Championship. After five five-minute rounds, the Filipino contender won via unanimous decision.
In the main event, Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli, 35, of Terracina, Latina, Italy challenged reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, 41, of Manila, Philippines. The Filipino defending champion knocked out his Italian challenger in the first round.
