[PHOTOS] Brazil vs Japan: Alexandre Machado, Hideki Sekine fight at ‘ONE: Conquest of Champions’ in the Philippines

Brazil and Japan were among the 14 countries represented at “ONE: Conquest of Champions.” Taking place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines, it is the fourth and last ONE Championship event in the Philippines in 2018.

“ONE: Conquest of Champions” featured eight mixed martial arts matches, two Muay Thai bouts and two kickboxing contests. In the fifth bout of the evening, Alexandre “Bebezao” Machado, 36, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil faced Hideki “Shrek” Sekine, 45, of Shizuoka, Japan.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and judo black belt, Sekine has been competing professionally as an MMA fighter since 2009. When he made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Age of Domination” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on December 2, 2016, he was knocked out by ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, 41, of the Philippines.

“ONE: Conquest of Champions” marked Sekine’s third ONE Championship bout. Before joining ONE Championship, the Shizuoka native previously competed in Deep and Real Fight Championship.

Machado is a multiple-time BJJ champion. His professional MMA career started in 2007.

“ONE: Conquest of Champions” marked Machado’s fourth ONE Championship bout. Before joining ONE Championship, the Rio de Janeiro native previously competed in Guarus Combat, Show Fighting Enterprise, Jungle Fight, M-1 Global and Peru Fighting Championship, among others.

Fight Result

Machado and Sekine competed in the heavyweight division. Olivier Coste served as the referee.

Coste put a stop to the heavyweight bout between Machado and Sekine after 1 minute and 44 seconds in the second round. The Brazilian fighter knocked out his Japanese opponent.

Winning at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” improved Machado’s professional MMA record to 9 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Sekine now has 7 wins and 3 losses.

“ONE: Conquest of Champions” Main Events

In the co-main event of the evening, Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, of Baguio City, Philippines and Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore competed for the vacant ONE Lightweight World Championship. After five five-minute rounds, the Filipino contender won via unanimous decision.

In the main event, Vera, 41, of Manila, Philippines defended his title as the reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion against Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli, 35, of Terracina, Latina, Italy. The Filipino defending champion knocked out his Italian challenger in the first round.
