Indonesia and the Philippines were represented at the ONE Championship event “ONE: Warrior’s Dream,” which took place on November 17, 2018 at the Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. The fight card featured three ONE Super Series striking contests and 11 mixed martial arts matches.
In the 12th bout of the evening, Priscilla “Thathi” Hertati Lumban Gaol, 30, of Jakarta faced Angelie “The Explorer” Sabanal, 28, of Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. They competed in an MMA match in the women’s atomweight division.
A national Muay Thai silver medalist, Sabanal is now making the rounds as a professional MMA fighter in ONE Championship. She made her impressive cage debut on March 24, 2018 at “ONE: Iron Will,” defeating Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige, 29, of Bangkok, Thailand by three-round unanimous decision.
“ONE: Warrior’s Dream” marked Sabanal’s second ONE Championship bout. She is representing Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts.
At the age of 17, Gaol began training in wushu after taking an opportunity to compete for the Indonesian national team. She captured both an Indonesian National Wushu Championship and a local boxing title and won a bronze medal in wushu at the Southeast Asian Games.
Training at Siam Training Camp in Jakarta, Gaol is one of the top Indonesian MMA fighters today. “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” marked her sixth ONE Championship bout in 2018 making her the promotion’s most prolific athlete this year.
After three five-minute rounds, the atomweight bout between Gaol and Sabanal was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, referee Yuji Shimada raised the hand of the Indonesian contender, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream improved Gaol’s professional MMA record to 5 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Sabanal now has 1 win and 1 loss.
“ONE: Warrior’s Dream” Main Events
In the co-main event of the evening, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken, 34, of Helmond, Netherlands and Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre, 36, of Sao Paulo, Brazil battled it out in a ONE Super Series kickboxing contest. The Dutch kickboxer knocked out his Brazilian opponent in the second round.
In the main event, Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 28, of Arsta, Uppsala, Sweden and Tyler McGuire, 32, of Spokane, Washington, United States competed for the vacant ONE Welterweight World Championship. The Swedish contender captured the belt by knocking out his American opponent in the fourth round.
