On November 23, 2018, Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, of the Philippines will face Amir Khan, 23, Singapore in the main event of “ONE: Conquest of Champions” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. They will compete for the ONE Lightweight World Championship title, which was recently vacated by reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian: Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam.
Less experienced, Khan is considered the underdog. But Folayang is not underestimating the Singaporean boxer.
“He is young and talented,” Folayang said of Khan. “I am also sure that he is hungry. There is no room for complacency in this match.”
“Of course, the momentum is on my side but I plan to sustain it,” Folayang claimed. “I started the year with a win. I followed it up with another big win. The timing speaks for itself.”
“2018 has been a very good year to me,” Folayang declared. “After November 23, I’m confident that the Philippines and Team Lakay will have another new world champion in the sport.”
After losing the ONE Lightweight World Championship title to Nguyen, Folayang defeated Dagestani fighters Kharun “Predator” Atlangeriev, 26, and Aziz Pahrudinov, 29. The Team Lakay fighter made a bold prediction that fans in attendance at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” will witness another coronation of a Filipino world champion in mixed martial arts.
“I feel very fulfilled because I made the right decision to compete again,” Folayang said. “Also, my hard work has paid off. It will be a great birthday present for me to bring home the belt again. It’s an added motivation going into the bout against Amir Khan on November 23.”
Khan holds the exceptional record for the most wins and finishes in ONE Championship, scoring impressive victories over the likes of Bashir Ahmad, Jimmy Yabo, Jaroslav Jartim and Adrian Pang. In Khan’s most recent bout, he defeated Folayang’s Team Lakay teammate Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 29.
