For the fourth time, Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation will hold an event at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, Bahrain. On November 18, 2018, Abdul-Kareem “Pride of Palestine” Al-Selwady, 23, of Amman, Jordan and Luan “Miau” Santiago, 23, of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil will headline “Brave 18.”
Ottman “Bulldozer” Azaitar, 28, of Germany had been stripped of his Brave CF Lightweight Champion belt because of his refusal to defend the title for more than a year. Lucas “Minero” Martins, 29, of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil also left his Brave CF Interim Lightweight Champion title as he is moving to his original weight class, which is the featherweight division.
In the main event of “Brave 18,” Al-Selwady and Santiago will compete for the vacant Brave CF Lightweight Champion title. In Santiago’s most recent bout, he lost to Martins for the Brave CF Interim Lightweight Champion title.
Brave CF president Mohammed Shahid explained that the promotion wants a champion who is willing to defend his title anytime. He enumerated l-Selwady, Santiago and Eldar Eldarov, 27, of Russia as the top contenders of Brave CF’s lightweight division and confirmed that the new champion of the division will be crowned in time for the Brave International Combat Week.
Al-Selwady has 4 wins and 0 loss in Brave CF and 9 wins and 1 loss overall. He is riding a five-bout winning streak.
The four opponents Al-Selwady defeated in Brave CF were Rami Aziz, 27, of Baghdad, Iraq, Michael “Maicon D” Deiga-Scheck, 32, of Germany, Erick “Indio Brabo” da Silva, 29, of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil and Charlie Leary, 36, of Harrow, Greater London, England. On the other hand, the two fighters who lost to Santiago in the promotion were Ivan “Choko” Castillo, 28, of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico and Igor Soares, 37, of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil.
Santiago is looking forward to redeeming himself from his loss to Martins. The former has 12 wins and 3 losses overall.
