A historical event in the world of martial arts is set to take place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. For the first time in the history of ONE Championship, the organization will have a boxing bout in its event.
On October 6, 2018, the Impact Arena will play host to ONE Championship’s next event in Bangkok titled “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes.” On July 9, 2018, the organization held a press conference for the event at the W Hotel in the capital city of Thailand.
“ONE Championship will create an indelible legacy on 6 October,” ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated during the press conference. He referred to “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes” as “the biggest event in martial arts history” where talented athletes from mixed martial arts, Muay Thai and boxing will “join together under one roof in celebrating Asia’s greatest cultural treasure.”
Sityodtong announced that the main event of “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes” will be a boxing bout. One of the headliners will be Thai boxing superstar Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, 31, who was also present during the press conference.
Srisaket is the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Flyweight Champion. His opponent at “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes” has yet to be announced.
“It is my honor and my pleasure to see some of the greatest martial artists on the planet compete in ONE Championship,” Sityodtong said. “The thing that makes ONE Championship different from any other organization in the world is that we want to build and unleash martial arts superheroes to ignite the world with inspiration, hope, dreams, strength, and courage.”
Several Thai fighters have been confirmed to be competing in the MMA and striking-only bouts of “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes.” Among them are Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex, 33, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, 32, Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai, 29, and Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige, 29, and Petchmorrakot Wor. Sangprapai, 24.
